Wellington Schools Chess Championship
11:30am- 5pm Saturday 8th August 2015
Johnsonville Community Centre, 3 Frankmoore Ave, Johnsonville

Primary Championship (year 1-6 students) - 5 rounds
Intermediate Championship (year 7-8 students) - 5 rounds
Secondary School Championship (year 9-13 students) - 5 rounds, clocks 15 min+5 sec

This is a qualifying event for the NZCF National School Finals held in Palmerston North on 26 and 27th September. It is a team Swiss format tournament with 5 rounds, played in 3 Sections. The format for any Section may be changed to a round robin if there are too few entries for a Swiss format. Chess clocks with 15 minutes + 5 second increments will be used in the Secondary School Section. The Intermediate and Primary Sections will use clocks only if enough are available, otherwise if games are unfinished after 30 minutes then a clock will be provided with 5 minutes per player to complete the game.

TEAM COMPETITION
Teams comprise 4 players and 1 optional reserve who are students from the same school. All members in the team must be of the correct, or of a lower, school year (Primary years 1-6, Intermediate years 7-8, Secondary years 9-13). Exemptions will not be given to students who have skipped an academic year. Players within a team must be ranked in descending order according to the following NZCF Rapid rating (unrated players are reasonably ranked in descending order of estimated playing strength below 800 point rated players). Players must keep to their team order for the duration of each competition. If a team has a reserve player, he/she may only play at board 4.

SCORING SYSTEM
Match points will be used for scoring and pairing.

AWARDS The winning team for each Section will be awarded medals. The winning schools will also hold the Wellington Schools champion trophy until next years event and qualify as the Wellington representative for the upcoming National Finals. NZCF designated tie-breaks will be used for award team places if there are tied scores (see link to rules at the bottom of page). All players will receive a participation certificate.

ENTRY FEES AND REGISTRATION In order to plan for the number of teams, advanced registration and payment is required for all sections. If payment is received by Monday 3rd August the entry fee is $60 per team, paid in one lump sum by the school or parent/teacher organising the team (please do not leave it for individual team members to pay separately).
